Introduction

What is a sociopath?

Some people hear the word sociopath and think of violent criminals. I was once one of them. Unfortunately I learned different when I became involved with a charming charismatic man from my past. There was an instant attraction because unlike other men I had known, he was intense, sexy and oh so sweet. I thought I hit the jackpot and wondered why I wasn't attracted to him in high school. He easily seduced me and at the time, I had no idea of his motives. Dominate and controlling, he twisted my emotions and used my empathy to throw me off balance. Once he had me where he wanted me, he turned my world into a crazy train. By the time I stepped off, I felt used and confused. He walked away with no remorse and absolutely no guilt for what he put me through.

Entangled is a book I wrote about my experiences. It wasn't until the end that I discovered the true definition of a sociopath. Hopefully my story will help others to spot the red flags. Not everyone will understand how he was able to manipulate and fool me for so long—maybe because they have had the good fortune to not get entangled with a sociopath.

Entangled has won an award in the 2013 Royal Palm Literacy Awards at the Florida Writer's Association Writer's Conference.

  2. “Sociopaths suffer from major emotional deficits and do not experience real love or empathy. They may appear to be sensitive, but are only concerned with their own selfish needs. Yet they can be personable, disarming, and strangely electric. Driven by passionless intensity burning within a hollow core, their staged acts continually defy and confuse people.”
